Behringer’s four new USB audio interfaces are called the U-PHORIA series beginning with the UM2, built around BEHRINGER’s XENYX mic preamps (which is nothing so new), while the remaining three UM22, UMC202 and UMC204 models feature MIDAS-designed mic pres (now we’re talking!). All models include professional-grade +48 V Phantom Power for use with condenser microphones.  The UMC202 (2 x 2) and UMC204 (2 x 4) employ high-precision 24-Bit/96 kHz digital converters. Both models include dual mic/line/instrument inputs and an array of controls suitable for professional applications. The UMC22 and UM2 offer a single microphone input and one instrument input and are suited to recording on the go with a laptop. All units use high-speed USB 2.0. BEHRINGER has its own recording, editing and podcasting software bundle as a free download, but any DAW will also work. All U-PHORIA Series models provide a powerful phones output with Level control and Direct Monitor select, Status, Signal and Clip LEDs. The U-PHORIA are all only USB buss-powered and have a rugged aluminum chassis. These are definitely designed for small setups, maybe a laptop where you can sketch out song ideas and still create recordings that are high quality enough to use in the final sessions, if you want – the first recordings are often the best  and you can waste endless hours in a big studio trying to reproduce them.
